Tina Bull Broaddus
School Board Candidate
My Ties to Mathews
I love living here in Mathews with my husband, Marty. I have three sons, a step-daughter, and six grandsons. My step-daughter and her family also live in Mathews. She teaches fifth grade at Thomas Hunter Middle School. Two of our grandsons attend Mathews Elementary School. My husband is a native of Mathews, and is an assistant coach for the Mathews varsity baseball team. I’ve known my husband since high school when he used to deliver Coca-Cola there, but we didn’t get married until 2015
Why I Am Running
I am running for a position on the School Board because of my concern with some of the trends that I have seen in my teaching career, especially in the past few years. The class sizes in Mathews are increasing, in part because teachers are not always being replaced when they leave, which impacts the funding for the next year. The buildings, athletic facilities and technology need to be upgraded. Teachers’ salaries also need to be increased in order to hire and retain well qualified teachers.

I spent over 23 years teaching third grade and kindergarten, only leaving this year for a new career opportunity. I am a certified teacher, and I now serve in my current role as a Service Coordinator and Developmental Therapist with the Middle Peninsula Northern Neck Community Board’s Rural Infant Services Program. I work closely with a team of therapists to assess and provide services for children aged birth to three who have developmental delays.

I travel across the Northern Neck working with families, teaching and guiding them in their journey to help their children succeed. The work I do is very rewarding.

What the Candidate Team Can Do for Mathews
I believe teamwork is important in all that we do in life. Teamwork is an important part of my current job. I think the candidate team that the Mathews Citizens for the Common Good will be able to cooperate, negotiate and come to an agreement on our priorities. I think it is critical that we all work together for our students, families and teachers.
Authorized by Mathews Citizens For The Common Good. Authorized by Tina Bull Broaddus, candidate for School Board.
